In September 2003 the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) again reported that work-related stress is a serious problem for organisations. About half a million people in the UK experience work-related stress at a level they believe is making them ill. Up to 5 million people in the UK feel ‘very' or ‘extremely' stressed by their work. Tackling it effectively can result in significant benefits for organisations.
HSE also advises that the law requires organisations to take action. The more a workplace finds itself liable for an employee's stress, the more likely a successful legal claim in tort or delict.
