Improving health on every level

You may be drawn to looking after your health even more than ever and may want your home to be a healthier environment, whether you work from home or not. 


Mental health has always been an issue although in the past many didn't like to talk about it. As it has reached a peak, especially in recent times. Some of my tips below may be beneficial for both physical & mental health.


I'm here to guide you as much as I can and have shared some of my top tips to have a healthier mind, body & home.


MIND & BODY


As gut health is connected with the mind here are some things I would recommend:


Early Morning Light


A very beneficial way to heal mind & body which helps gut health, weight, sleep and general wellbeing is to get out in the daylight (even if the sun isn’t out) between 6am - 9am for at least 2 – 10 minutes, preferably 30 minutes if possible, and also sometime later in the afternoon if you can. This helps the Circadian Rhythm, which is the biological clock responsible for releasing hormones and chemicals in the body throughout the day, including serotonin to produce melatonin to trigger your body to sleep. 


Shaking  & Tapping the Body


By shaking your body by creating movement starting at legs and working your way up the body for around 5-15 minutes (in the morning and evening) activates the parasympathetic nervous system which signals the brain to calm, relax, energise and become more present. It helps to activate the lymphatic system of our body enabling the body to clear toxins and balance weight etc. Put on your favourite music and feel your energy emerge as your stress releases.


Tapping the body with your palms, fingers or loose fists helps to increase the circulation, restore balance and access emotions enabling you to acknowledge and heal. It activates the lympathics, stimulates the meridians (the energy pathways in the body), helping to improve health, reduce stress, increase energy and lose/balance weight.


Whole Foods


Fibre acts as a prebiotic (food for the good bacteria) and a whole food plant based diet may be beneficial. I would recommend that you introduce healthier options gradually to see if they suit you. If you find vegetables agree with you then get an array of different colours and varieties to help boost your natural fibre intake. If easily digested, healthy plant based proteins such as beans, lentils in their natural form can be made into delicious recipes. Animal foods that are organic, grass fed and natural as possible are recommended over the processed cheaper varieties. You may find gluten-free whole grains more digestible so choose ones such as brown rice, millet, quinoa, buckwheat, oats and amaranth. They are usually more digestible when soaked first and then rinsed/cooked as per instructions. 


Probiotics and fermented foods may help improve the state of the gut, however, if you have an excess of bad bacteria and have more severe digestive issues, you may actually feel worse as the bad bacteria are dying off. It is recommended to get advice from a qualified practitioner if so.

Mindful living & exercise


Being mindful, which is about being in the moment helps you to focus on the here and now so you don't get caught up in the past or the future, which is when you can get depressed and anxious. Find relaxation techniques/meditations that work for you. I love a practice called Yoga Nidra which is not a physical yoga practice, you lie down and focus on a guiding voice. There are many practices on YouTube. Yoga, Qi Gong and Tai Chi are beneficial exercises as well as walking in nature, rebounding etc.


Water


It's very important for your health to drink water, however, tap water contains chlorine and limescale and probably fluoride, microplastics, lead and other toxic heavy metals. .There's a chance it also contains synthetic hormones, harmful bacteria & parasites and drugs. When I was studying nutrition I was told it was a good idea to vary waters although avoid tap water.


There are many water filter systems on the market and some are very expensive. It really depends on the water in your area what you really need. I would love to get The Wellness Filter one day.

Natural Products


I recommend choosing the most natural products; toiletries and cleaning products etc. as most of them contain chemicals that can negatively impact your health and also children/pets in the household. There are many products that may state they are natural although still contain chemical based ingredients.

Get healthy bedding


Wool is a temperature regulator, breathable and moisture wicking, whieh can aid sleep by allowing your body to maintain the perfect temperature throughout the night, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer. I recommend using a wool duvet and pillow. 


Protect from electromagnetic radiation


If you get symptoms from electromagnetic frequencies or want to protect against them there are some things I would recommend to help alleviate the negative effects that EMR has on your body and health. Reducing the cumulative effects and associated symptoms of stress, headaches and fatigue caused by WiFi, Bluetooth, phones and internet streaming etc. Your children are at greater risk as they absorb up to 10 times more EMR. Purifying the air


Air Purifiers can be very beneficial if you suffer from Hayfever, Pet and Dust Allergies or Asthma and Respiratory Problems. The correct Air Purifier can remove a multitude of allergens from the air including dust mites, mould spores, pet dander, odours and dust. You may not be aware how many chemicals - VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are in the air too from paints, furniture and decor, household and toiletries etc.


There are some brands that are more effective than others. If you are wanting to get one for a specific issue let me know and I'll do my best to find the best one for you.


Specific plants can help although they won't absorb the dust or pet dander etc, A Peace Lily is a great all rounder to remove ammonia (xylene), benzene, formaldehyde and toluene from the air and English Ivy has been known to cleanse the same as well as mould from the environment.
